This higher education conference will be held in the University of Limerick in October 2009 and will address the theme of Sustainable Global Development.  Papers reflecting the latest research and practice in development education and in international development issues are presented.

Defusing Anger

28th and 29th May 2009

The IPI offers this two-day course as part of its educational aim to positively impact on the enhancement of universal conflict transformation skills. Defusing Anger focuses on developing an understanding of the effects of anger in interpersonal relationships.  Participants have the opportunity to increase self-awareness about their own patterns and beliefs about anger.

The Irish Peace Institute offers a package of two new and practical courses (2 days each) as part of its aim to help build the capacity of community organisations (NGOs, CBOs, FBOs). These courses provide you with the means to help streamline your organisation, improve its effectiveness and efficiency particularly during this current recession applying systematic planning. Each interactive course combines helpful ideas with practical tools to guide you through the implementation of positive change in your organisation. Experienced trainers will facilitate your learning by focusing on your organisations’ specific needs.

The British Ambassador spoke at the Irish Peace Institute Open Dialogue on the relationship between the UK and Ireland.  His presentation covered a number of initiatives between the two countries with a special focus on the links developed through the Peace Process.  The Ambassador took part in what has become a weekly series of dialogues covering different conflicts around the world.  The discussions our open to staff, students and the public and are part of an effort to increase understanding of the many difficulties faced in regions where conflict exists.

As part of its Africa Day celebrations for 2009 Irish Aid is hosting a family celebration in the grounds of Limerick City Hall.

 

The event is free and is not-for-profit. The celebration is an opportunity to promote a positive image of African culture and Ireland’s relationship with Africa.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) are launching a joint online initiative to raise awareness of the world’s most pressing humanitarian challenges and to show what individuals are doing to make a meaningful difference.   The new web portal, www.ourworld-yourmove.org, puts the spotlight on the human cost of wars, climate change, displacement, disease, food insecurity and forgotten crises.
